Congratulations to Lexi Thompson on becoming the youngest player to win an LPGA tournament, the Navistar LPGA Classic, at age 16! It’s not only her immeasurable skill and natural talent that is impressive, but her mental toughness and maturity.
This is a great time for the LPGA to capitalize on the attention. Lexi has yet to earn her Tour card, but commissioner Mike Whan could waive the age and Q-school requirements. The LPGA has long struggled with marketing itself to a nation that generally doesn’t follow women’s sports on television. Another bright young star such as Lexi will be a great addition to the Tour. I hope that day comes sooner rather than later.
